Sarah Schmidt, MS, ALC
Practicing under the supervision of Sara Parker, LPC-S
I work with Adults, Adolescents, and Couples to understand the stories, experiences, and patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Together, we make sense of what has shaped you, identify what you need now, and create space for healing, growth, and a more flourishing life.
I offer in-person sessions at our office in Daphne, Alabama,
& Telehealth sessions throughout Alabama.
About Sarah
I’m an Alabama native, and I dreamed of becoming a counselor from a young age. The path here was not a straight one. Before becoming a counselor, I spent more than a decade working with college students and young adults in the nonprofit world. Looking back, I believe that season prepared me in ways I could not have anticipated for the work I get to do now.
I love people’s stories. I have always been fascinated by what makes people who they are—the experiences that shaped them, the things they carry, and the ways they have learned to move through the world. One of my favorite moments in counseling is watching something click for a client when what has felt confusing or mysterious begins to make sense. I still find myself sitting across from people and thinking, How do I get to do this for a living?
I believe none of us makes it through life without being wounded in some way. I also believe healing and peace are possible. Sometimes what we need is the right setting: a place where we can be fully seen and heard without having to hide, perform, or have everything figured out. When people have enough safety and compassion to honestly explore what they are carrying, important connections can begin to emerge and things that have felt stuck can begin to move.
At the heart of my approach is the belief that we are not meant to journey alone. I want to meet people where they actually are, understand their story, and get curious about what may be keeping them stuck. From there, we can begin identifying what they need in order to move toward greater freedom, healing, and a life that feels more whole.
I am trained in EMDR and have seen how powerful it can be, but I do not believe counseling should be one-size-fits-all. Different people need different things at different times. I draw from EMDR and other evidence-based approaches based on the person or couple sitting in front of me, rather than trying to fit every client into the same method.
There are few things more meaningful to me than being trusted with another person’s story. To be invited into the places that hurt, the questions that have gone unanswered, and the moments when something finally begins to change feels like an extraordinary gift. I consider it an honor to walk alongside people as they move toward healing.
